Eclectic Mayhem

dynamic stage combat

Our Mission

As movement performance specialists focused on storytelling through violence, the performers of Eclectic Mayhem hope to engender a fresh appreciation for the often under-realized narrative potential of theatrical violence. By providing choreography services, educational workshops, and performance programs, we are enthusiastically expanding awareness of this exciting art form.

Eclectic Mayhem’s philosophy in theatrical violence is a simple one. We are telling stories, using the most visceral tools we can. Where each play is a story with a beginning, middle, and end, each moment within that play is a story in and of itself. Fights are no different; although it cannot be denied that a well-performed fight can be a show(and heart!)-stopping moment, that fight will fail if its internal narrative does not support the overall narrative of the show. In short, a fight scene should exist within the world of its production, rather than take an audience out of that world. As choreographers, Eclectic Mayhem seeks to work with productions to create fights which tell the story the director wants to tell, in a way that touches the audience while keeping actors completely safe.

About us

Eclectic Mayhem consists of Tonya Lynn and Adam Rutledge, theater artists with over a decade of combined experience in Stage Combat performance and choreography. Both are affiliated with the Society of American Fight Directors and the United Stuntmen's Association.
